A Star is Born

I'm not sure who all reads this.  And of everyone who does read it, there are probably only two (mom and dad) of you who know my dream growing up was to be a movie star.  Well, that dream has now become a reality.  I mean, I'm the star of a movie.  I mean, I'm the lead in a movie.  I mean, I have screen time in a movie.  I mean, I could end up on the cutting room floor.  But, it's possible I'll be seen in the back ground of a major (Indonesian) motion picture next year!
It all started out on a quiet Wednesday afternoon.  Okay, let's be real, it's never quiet over here.  But, anyway, I got a text message from the kids' school saying that there was a movie being filmed and they wanted some kids with a "Western look."  Lucky us, my kids fit the bill!  So, they skipped half a day of school and headed out to make a movie!  At first Truett wanted to do it.  Then he didn't.  Then he found out his friend would be there, so he wanted to do it.  Then he didn't.  Then he finally did and was great and had a wonderful time.

We spent some time in hair and make up.

Then headed to wardrobe.

After hair, make up, and wardrobe.

That little box of rice and chicken is what the "extras" got to eat.  Good thing we stopped at McDonald's on the way!

The kids spent a lot of time (hours) just playing and waiting until it was their turn to shoot.  They both had good friends from school there, so they had a blast!

Just some pictures of the crew setting scenes up.

They waited so long that Paisley's hair started falling down and they had to redo it.  I think they redid it three or four times during the day.

When it was finally time to start, they just acted like kids on a playground, running, swinging, having a good time.  Truett and his friends had to stay in the very far back of the scene because they had on bright red and blue tennis shoes.  I guess they weren't appropriate for that time period!

Some of the kids who were there that day.  The boy in the middle is who the movie is about.

We had a good time!  Paisley got to shoot a solo scene.  They filmed her walking down a school hallway and passing Mienke (the main character of the show).  At the end of the day, Paisley started getting sick.  I bribed my crying, sick child with a slurpee if she would stay for the last scene of the day.  Good parenting???  She ended up enjoying it, so I'm glad we stayed, although she stayed home sick from school the next day because she had a fever.  Oops!  The last scene was in a classroom.  There were only about 10 kids there and it sounds like Truett may have stolen the show!

Meta asked to come with us because she wanted to see the director.  Apparently he is a big time famous director here.

The next week, they needed us again.  Truett couldn't go, but Paisley and I could.  They needed adults in this scene!  So, back to hair and make up.

 Before and after wardrobe.

A scene with the stars of the show on a picnic.  The main character is a famous Indonesian hip hop artist.

Paisley's best friend (the little girl next to her in the white) went with us this time.

Another "yummy" lunch.  Too bad we didn't have McDonald's this time!

This is how we spent the first 4 hours as we waited our turn.

This time we filmed a wedding scene.  We were all seated around tables at a wedding party.  At one point, the girl next to me and I were asked to get up and get filmed walking in.  There is a chance I really will have my 15 minutes . . . err, seconds . . . of fame!  The sad part is, this is what you'll see me wearing for those 15 seconds!  Enjoy a good chuckle!

If you're interested in learning about the movie, it is called Bumi Manusia and is based of some famous Indonesian literature.  Wikipedia it.
