It's Photo Friday!!

These pictures are fuzzy, but they show how much my kids love playing Super Hero.

 They love to read!

Lookin' cute

Truett drew Minnie and Mickey and Paisley wrote her name

Truett asked Michael how to spell SUPER HERO.  Michael told him the letters and Tru wrote this all by himself!

Ramai

Ramai . . . your Indonesian word of the day.  Definition: crowded, busy, noisy, active, boisterous.  That's how our neighbor described our house the other afternoon.  If you haven't read the previous post already, take a second and read it.  So, before that big party at the neighbor's house happened, several kids were playing out in the street, including ours.

After the birthday party blowout, our neighbor invited all of the kids in to our house to play.  It was a great time, but "ramai," definitely!  There were kids coloring, kids reading, kids building with blocks, and kids playing ball.  They even asked if they could come back the next day.  This is the community I want!

It's a Par-Tay!

We were outside watching the kids play when a group of college students drove up the road.  They were going to the house next door for a surprise party.  There is an unusual surprise birthday party tradition in this country.
Look at the pictures and I'll explain.

It started with everyone hiding as the girl drove up on a motorbike.  She was quickly doused with water.

Then came the eggs.

And the flour.

The neighborhood children got in on the action.

Truett even got to be part of the fun, tossing flour on the birthday girl.
He quickly went back in the house to wash his hands, though.

And last came the birthday cupcakes.  They sang in both Indonesian and English.

Bucket Baths!!

The children get so excited when they get to take "bucket baths."  We do this when we're late getting home and don't have a time for a real bath before bedtime.  Don't worry, we do have a real bathtub that they usually use!

Michael and I do, however, use those buckets for bathing.  Not in quite the same way the kids do!  We fill the buckets up with water and then use a smaller handled bucket to splash the water on us.  See, our bathroom doesn't have a bathtub, only a spout.  There is a shower head connected to it, but because of the way the hot water works in our house, we have either burning hot water or icy cold.  We manage to switch back and forth from hot to cold until the bucket is filled with a comfortable temperature of water and then we bathe away!

A Day at the Zoo

We had a great morning at the Gembira Loka Zoo last Saturday.  Here are a few pictures of the day . . .

Truett welcomes you to the zoo!

Measuring our wingspan against some large birds.

Oh so sweet!!

On of the kids' favorite things to do is feeding the deer.

Oh, you should see this hippo!  There is no zoom on that picture.  We could have LITERALLY reached out and touched this hippopotamus.

Leaving the zoo.
