Hiking!!

So, Michael has always talked about wanting to go on hikes.  I've always said I don't like hikes.  We've always thought the kids would be whiny.  But, a few weeks ago, we took the young adults from our church on a hike and brought the kids along.  We all had such a good time!  Turns out, I do like to hike and the kids weren't whiny the whole time!

We had a fun lunch at a little resto outside of town.  They cooked the rice on this old fashion stove.

 Beautiful scenery!

 Our hiking group

Paisley wanted to take a picture where she looked tough.

In fact, we had such a good time as a family that we decided to take another hike a few weekends later.  Unfortunately, the path we wanted to go on was closed, but we did get to see lots of monkeys!

We love our photographer!!

At one point, it seemed like all of the monkeys in the forest started running up the mountain.

As we took a break for lunch, this is what we saw . . .

We decided to have something different for lunch!

We found a "waterfall" after lunch.  Maybe we should have called it a water trickle!

17 Agustus (our 4th of July)

The seventeenth of August is Indonesian Independence Day.  We spent the afternoon celebrating with friends, playing games and having a cookout.  We played some traditional Indonesian Independence Day games.

This sign translates, "Really Indonesian."  That's what these kids are!  As much as they are American, they're proud to be Indonesian, too!

These are "krupuk" hanging from a string.  Whoever ate it all first wins!  We had a nice little family competitions.  Mom wins!!

For this game, a ballpoint pen is tied to your waist with string and dangles behind you.  The first to get it in to a water bottle wins!
