Tourists

While Nana and Aunt Tay Tay were here, we got to do some of the more toursity things in our hometown.

Michael, Theresa, and Taryn went to Borobodur (one of the largest Buddhist temple in the world) while the kids and I spent the day at home.  It would have been too hot and too much walking for the kids.

They were quite popular!  Everyone wanted to take pictures with them!

There are hundreds of Buddha statues at the temple.  And what a gorgeous view!

And pictures of the family.

We all went to the Kraton (Sultan's palace) and the Water Temple.  It was a long and hot afternoon, but the kids did pretty well.

Still having people want to take pictures with them.

We saw a Wayang Kulit (paper puppet) performance when we first got there.  One man is behind the screen with a light shining up on the puppets.  It is quite fascinating.

The kids watching behind the scenes.  There is a whole orchestra of gamelans.

We rented becaks to take us from the Palace to the Water Temple.

We stopped to see some people making the wayang kulit puppets.

This guy talked and talked and talked and talked and talked . . . about the history of the puppets.

The kids loved to watch all the steps of the puppet making process.

This is jackfruit.  Paisley loves it.  That's to be expected, though, she loves most Indonesian foods.

We also saw this lady making batik.  She uses hot wax to make a pattern on the cloth, dyes the cloth, and then takes the wax off.

Sorry I don't have any pictures of the Water Palace.  By this point we were ALL hot and tired!
