Mangunang

A few weeks ago, Paisley and I took a fun trip out to a village and had some traditional Indonesian fun.  I've got lots of pictures (maybe about 150) of our adventure.

We're about to head out.

We started off watching the sunset at Watu Goyang.

 

 People always want to take pictures with my little one.

Paisley wanted a picture with one of our German friends.

She loves taking selfies.

 Then we went to play with some wayang kulit.

 

 

 

We watched a small part of a performance.

 And then tried it ourselves.  Look at Paisley's foot, she's playing a little gong to go along with the story.

 The next morning, most of the group went to see the sunrise.  I chose for Paisley and me to get a little more sleep (no way we were getting up at 4:00 in the morning!).  We met the rest of them at breakfast at a "food court."

She made us some fresh lemonade.  So delicious!

Then we went to make tiwul, made from coconut and palm sugar.  So good!

Next on the agenda was the "Hundred Stones," basically a tourist attraction full of places to take pictures.

 

 

 

 This was one of our tour guides and he loved taking pictures of Paisley.

 Paisley asked me to take a picture of her on every bench in this row.  I'll save you the time of looking at all of the pictures.

 She had the best time collecting pine cones.

 We ended the trip making batik.  I really enjoyed it!

 

 

 He's the professional.  He fixed all of our mistakes.

 The dying process is quite fascinating.  After putting it in different chemicals, he put it in a clear solution and it turned it blue.

These girls look like best friends, huh?  Nope, they'd never met each other.  Her mom just wanted a picture of them together.

The place where we stayed prepared a couple of meals for us.  It was the first time I ate cow skin, chicken brain, and chicken heart.

Busy weekends

We've had some busy weekends around here lately.  We took our young adults from church to Dieng (a city up in the mountains that was so cold!), Paisley and I went to Mangunang (a traditional Indonesian village), and celebrated Paisley's birthday.  Fun times!  I'll start with our trip to Dieng.  Not too many pictures, but we had a great time . . . and got to wear jackets!!

We met at McDonalds to have a quick breakfast and to wait for the bus.

There are lots of photo opportunities up the mountain.  The kids wanted pictures with this owl.

 After about 10 seconds, Paisley started asking for them to take the owl off.  They couldn't hear her and just kept letting people take pictures.

It cost about 50 cents to have your picture taken.  The guy in the fur hat is the one who runs the stand and takes the money.  He asked for a picture with Paisley.  I tried to make him pay for it, but he just laughed.  Hey, if I pay him to take pictures of my kid, he should pay me to take pictures of him, right??

 Michael decided to take the kids for ride on some little 4-wheelers.  His and Truett's didn't work, so he upgraded to a dirt bike.  Oh how the kids loved this!!!  When they rode with me on the 4-wheeler, I let them steer.  When they rode with Michael on the dirt bike, they got to go up the hills.  What fun!

 We also visited a temple.

The kids got spoiled.
